Latest Statement.
At approximately 2.40 pm on Friday 14 May, an incident occurred on West Common Lane, Scunthorpe, near the Castles Futures Scunthorpe school.
The case involved a police officer (who had been visiting our school in connection with an earlier matter) and a visiting member of the public.
The Police investigation into the altercation remains ongoing. Castle Futures Scunthorpe is assisting the relevant authorities to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident; statements have been given to the police by staff who put their own safety aside to assist at the scene, and CCTV has been provided as evidence.
Owing to a nearby traffic accident that forced the Kingsway to close, there was an especially large response from emergency services already in the area.
According to police statements, the officer is now recovering in hospital and two individuals arrested in connection have since been released on bail.
We want to reassure students, staff, and the public that this was an exceptional, unforeseeable and isolated incident that occurred outside of the Castles Futures Scunthorpe facilities, and at no time was there a threat to the public, staff or other students of either Castles Futures or the adjacent John Leggott College.
The wellbeing of the student and staff body is a fundamental priority of Castles Futures Scunthorpe. We are proud of the robust safeguarding procedures that continue to be maintained to the highest standard and we are contacting our students’ parents and carers to offer reassurances and support where needed.
We would like to thank staff for their outstanding response in assisting police at the incident and publicly pass on the appreciation we have received from the Force itself.
This full investigation continues to be a Police matter, and as such, all media enquiries must be referred to the Humberside Police
