GO FAR
An introspective series of short films about us.
We asked members of our team to volunteer to talk on camera about themselves, their experiences at Castles Education and the hopes and aspirations we hold for those in our care. We asked staff, some of whom are ex pupils and parents to share their real and often moving accounts of what it’s like to live with and work alongside complex educational needs.
Honesty was encouraged. Questions were secret.
Episodes.
Episode 1 / 5
CLAIRE .
Claire is a critical member of our SENDCo team who take the lead within our schools to ensure that all students are given (and get) a bespoke educational plan tailored for them. Claire explains her deeper personal and professional relationship with special needs issues.
Episode 2 / 5
HENRY.
Whether he likes it or not Henry is the perfect example of why Castles Education came into being. After joining us as a year 10 student struggling in his mainstream setting Henry thrived at Castles and quickly became the fantastic role model that he is today. We were quick to offer Henry our first Castles Apprenticeship.
Episode 3 / 5
JOANN.
Joann first found Castles Education when her son Henry was referred to us when he struggled to settle in his mainstream school. Seeing first hand how we were able to help Henry, Joann asked to work with us to help others and is now a valued member of our team. As a parent turned employee, Joann has a unique view of what we are able to do.
Episode 4 / 5
KAI & HENRY.
Talking is an essential tool in any SEMH setting. Our school Behaviour Leaders, Kai and Henry are very good at it and warranted extra time to more fully explore the daily rigours of school life and why having a safe educational ‘home’ is so important to our pupils. Their passion for the special needs sector is clear from the off and builds throughout this epic conversation.
Episode 5/5
HENRY & JOANN.
Henry was a pupil at Castles and is now our first apprentice. Joann is Henry’s mum and also now works at Castles. As a family they have committed to a Castles future more than anyone else we know. We asked them to talk individually and now together about what life has been like.
Why ‘Go Far’?
‘Go Far’ : to be very successful in the future (Cambridge Dictionary def.)
‘Go Far’ seemed a fitting title for a film project aimed at explaining our ambitions through a more accessible medium. We wanted to showcase the often unseen work that our teams do and to explain more clearly what working in a special educational setting means to both them and us.
We plan to use the ‘Go Far’ project to positively promote our schools and our sector and hope to add more episodes in the future.
